How do we view the statue of liberty?
For nearly a century this rowhouse was occupied by a single family. The new owner, a city planning official, devises a strategy to transfer existing space from the center of the house to the roof where it can bask in a glorious view of the harbor. This required careful planning:
- how to modify existing structure to support new spaces
- how to overcome height restrictions and add new penthouse
- how to admit daylight to the dark center of a railroad flat
- how to insert modern environmental systems in historic structure
